Brian Bilgorri tells the story...

As can seen by the minutes provided, the Inaugural Meeting of The Guild of Location Managers was held at Lee Lighting headquarters at 85 Barlby Road, London, W10 during October 1989.

The members were working on "The Bill" tv series, who at that time were employing six location managers at any one period and based at Barlby Road.

At a later ACTT meeting, Micky Moynihan and I met up with Roland Caine who told us that Location Managers were thinking of forming an organisation to look after their interests. We agreed to contact each other, but due to pressure of work within both groups, this never happened.

The formation of the British Film Commission in the early 1990s meant that they were swamped with location requests. As a government backed organisation they did not want to be accused of showing favouritism to any individual. So after meetings between Sir Sydney Samuelson, Andrew Patrick, Brian Bilgorri and Chrissie Cocks it was suggested that a Guild of Location Managers be formally recognised and a meeting should be set up, with the GLM, Roland Caine's Group and any other location managers interested at the British Film Commission's offices at 70 Baker Street, London, W1.

This took place on Monday 11 May 1992.

The rest is history.
